Beach-goer in Galveston hospitalized after shark bite

GALVESTON, TX (CNN) - What was supposed to be a nice summer morning at the beach, turned into a terrifying shark tale.

The incident happened near Crystal Beach on Thursday at around 10 a.m. when a 42-year-old man was bitten by a shark above his right knee.

A photo of the man’s leg showed at least six bloody gashes from the jaws of the aquatic predator.

Shark expert, Roy Drinnen says judging by the shark bites, it had to have been about four to five feet.

Although it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what kind of shark bit him, people at the beach were still shocked to hear about sharks in Galveston.

Drinnen says during the summer sharks like to come out and hunt because there’s a lot more species coming closer, which means more food for them.

The man was taken to the hospital in stable condition and is expected to recover.
