LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Border Patrol agents with the Laredo Sector foiled an alleged human smuggling case where they found over 30 undocumented immigrants inside a tractor trailer.
According to Border Patrol, the incident happened on May 30th at the I-35 checkpoint when the driver of a tractor trailer was referred to secondary inspection.
Upon further inspection agents discovered 35 undocumented immigrants concealed inside the cabin of the trailer.
The individuals were found to be in good health and were determined to be from Mexico and Guatemala.
Laredo Sector Assistant Chief Patrol Agent Gabriel Acosta says, “These criminal organizations view these individuals as mere commodities without regard for their safety. The blatant disregard for human life will not be tolerated. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to disrupt and dismantle these organizations and prosecute those responsible.”
The driver, a United States Citizen was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security.
