LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - It’s only been four days since a new city rule requiring payment for pick-up of brush and bulky items has taken effect, but now one councilman is looking to repeal the ordinance.
On Monday, the city implemented a fee for the pick-up of brush and bulky items.
Those items include construction and demolition debris as well as unused appliances, furniture, and mattresses.
The new fees ranged in amount from $15 to $55.
Grass clippings and grass bags were not affected by the new fees, but now one councilman says he’s not convinced the fees are a good idea.
Councilman Alex Perez says, “I think the city should pick up the branches without charge the way we've done it for years. I hope to have the full support of the council and I will motion to remove the fees.”
City Council will consider the item at its next meeting on Tuesday.
