LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - On Monday, the city approved a resolution which expressed a lack of confidence in Webb County Elections Administrator, Oscar Villarreal.
Judge Tano Tijerina says the city’s decision sends a strong message about Villarreal’s role in elections.
During Monday night’s meeting, there were questions regarding Villarreal’s neutrality when it comes to his position, specifically targeting comments he’s made on elected officials and candidates.
Tijerina says a motion to remove Villarreal from his position has come up in the past.
Tijerina says that whatever is made during the meeting is just a recommendation that will then go to commissioners.
Tijerina encourages council members and anyone else who is concerned to attend the meeting.
Commissioners will have the final say on whether or not to remove Villarreal from his position.
