El Lift service fee proposal headed to City Council

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - A Para Transit Committee Board member is hoping anyone against El Metro raising their prices for its lift services will speak up during next week’s City Council meeting.

On Tuesday night, five Para Transit Committee Board members voted in favor of the price raise.

Board member Juan Lira however voted against it.
Lira says he is speaking up for the elderly community who are on a tight budget.

The proposed increase calls for raising the price from $1.25 to a price based on how many miles the riders travel.

For example, a rider traveling over 14 miles would have to pay $3.50.
The fare increase will be up for vote on Monday.
