LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - The Laredo Police Department is chiming in on a City Council agenda item looking to revert Bartlett Avenue back to its original traffic pattern.
Last week it was announced that Councilman Vidal Rodriguez was looking to bring up the item to change Bartlett back to its original state due to all the traffic accidents and safety issues that have occurred since the change.
When talking to Laredo Police on the amount of accidents they have seen in the area, the department says they have seen a decrease in accidents and an increase in mobility times.
Assistant Chief Manuel Maciel says the changes have been positive overall and he is suggesting that the council do some research before making any decisions.
Maciel says, “I would suggest maybe looking at the data, maybe if it's too small of a time, maybe extending the period and looking at the overall effect of it to get a better analysis for future growth also."
Councilman Rodriguez also cited a petition that’s received close to 2200 signatures as a reason to make the change back.
District Five Councilwoman Nelly Vielma says she felt that this item was only politically motivated and had no reason to be brought forward.
Since the council did not meet a quorum, they will bring the topic up during the next meeting which will be held on Monday, June 18th.
