LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - As one Kazen steps down from the federal branch, another generation of Kazen’s steps right in.
On Friday John Kazen was publically sworn in as federal magistrate judge for the federal court in Laredo.
After practicing for several years in private practice, he will now be leaving that behind and focusing on public service.
Kazen continues to the legacy left over by his father, retired Federal Judge George Kazen.
The newly sworn in judge says, “My father has been a tremendous inspiration to me after his 40 year career as a district court judge and so I told him that I could follow in his footsteps to whatever small extent."
The judge adds he's not replacing his father but he hopes he can carry on his legacy.
Kazen officially took over his new role on June 13th. He received his law degree from the University of Houston Law School.
