Update: Man from Phoenix arrested after high speed chase on I-35

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A 31-year-old man from Phoenix, Arizona is arrested in the high speed chase that ended on Lafayette Tuesday evening.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the driver of the black SUV was identified as Luciano Salazar.

DPS says they initially attempted to conduct a traffic stop, while he was driving on I-35 but he refused and led authorities on a chase.

The chase eventually came to a stop near the Lafayette Intersection.

Authorities say the vehicle that Salazar was driving had been reported stolen in Kansas.

Salazar was arrested and charged with evading arrest.

A high speed chase involving local law enforcement caused a big commotion on I-35 and Lafayette.

According to authorities, several units from the Department of Public Safety were seen chasing a vehicle traveling south on the interstate at a high rate of speed.

Witnesses say the chase began near the Del Mar and I-35 intersection and ended near the Lafayette intersection.

Authorities were seen surrounding the area, which caused traffic to be temporarily affected.

Officials are investigating the incident.
