LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - Five Laredo educators are getting a little help paying off their student loans.
On Friday the educators received a $2,000 grant to help pay off their college debt.
The College Student Loan Debt Grant Program was initiated by Carlos Zaffirini Jr.
Zaffirni says this is his way of honoring his mother as well as the educators who have been teaching in Laredo for over five years.
Five different high schools selected one teacher from their campus to be honored at the event.
In addition to the grant, each recipient got an award and a plaque for their dedication to education.
Patricia Sosa who was one of the teachers honored says, “I'm very proud to be one of their first recipients for this honor of this school loan debt, it really is going to be beneficial to me and my family and I'm very grateful for their generosity.”
The award is said to continue at least through 2020 and hopefully after that as well.
