LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - A fatal accident happened in north Laredo on Tuesday night.
Karla Karina Ortega Camacho, 27, has been arrested in this case and is now being charged with vehicular manslaughter.
According to police, Camacho saw a traffic buildup on the flyover and decided to make a u-turn, heading the wrong way. This is when Camacho collided with a pickup truck, which was driven by a woman with an eight-year-old girl as a passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt - nor was she in a carseat.
The impact of the crash caused the girl to be ejected from the pickup, landing beneath the Milo Road flyover.
Police have released the name of the victim as Belinda Muniz.
They are also using this accident as an example stressing the importance of wearing a seatbelt.
"There is no judgement in relationship to this terrible accident. This is the reason why cops give tickets for not wearing those seatbelts or not having children in these safety seats," says LPD Investigator Joe Baeza.
Police are also making a plea to the community to please leave with enough time to your destination. The city is growing, and more traffic than usual is being experienced.
