LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - Poinsettias are a sign of the Christmas season and you can see them adorning shopping malls and churches across the country.
This year the Saint Augustine High school cheer team donated poinsettias to decorate the school's chapel but it's what the students did with the plants afterwards that brought smiles to dozens of faces.
The Saint Augustine High school cheer team decided to bring some holiday cheer to some of Laredo's elders.
The cheer leading sponsor, Claudia De La Garza says it was a small gesture but one that made a big difference.
After donating poinsettias to the school chapel, the cheer team decided to use their Christmas break to bring the plants to the Retama nursing home in hopes they could spread some Christmas spirit.
Not only did the girls deliver the plants but they also spent some quality time with the residents, a gesture they hope the residents won't forget.
This is the third year the team donates the poinsettias to the nursing home, and they hope to continue the tradition.
