(NBC) - A U.S. District Court judge denied the NFL’s motion for an emergency stay of an injunction that is allowing Dallas running back Ezekiel Elliot to continue to play while his NFL suspension works its way through the courts.
This means that the case will now move to the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans where the NFL has already filed an appeal and expects that ruling to come down as early as Tuesday.
Elliot’s case could play out much like the deflate gate case in which Tom Brady’s suspension was delayed an entire year as it played out in the courts.
The NFL hopes to avoid that and is trying to expedite the courts to make a decision on Elliott sooner rather than later.
