Update: Jury finds Michael Molina not guilty of murder

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - The verdict is in and the jury found Michael Molina not guilty for the charge of murder and not guilty for the charge of manslaughter.

Molina was accused of murdering Rodolfo Garza back in 2015.

The trial lasted five days in the 49th District Court.

Back in January Judge Joe Lopez declared a mistrial due to Molina allegedly making inappropriate contact with the family member of a juror who was serving during his murder trial.

The state has rested its case in the murder trial of Michael Molina.

Molina is accused in the 2015 murder of Rodolfo Garza and the trial has been underway this week in the 49th District Court.

On Friday, the medical examiner testified that the cause of Garza’s death was undermined but that the wound was from a small gun and from a proximity.

Three experts testified so far, a firearms expert, as we as a gunshot residue expert and a DNA expert.

The defense will present their case on Monday.

On Thursday, the victim’s mother described the moments that lead up to the death of her son.

Day two of a 2015 murder trial got underway at the 49th District Court.

The mother of the victim was the first to testify in the trial of Michael Molina.

The mother described to the court the moments that lead up to the death of her son Rodolfo Garza.

In her testimony she recalled hearing what sounded like a firework go off in the backyard that night.

She says she searched for her son inside and outside the house.

Moments later, she saw Molina in her son’s bedroom packing a gym bag.

The mother asked Molina where her son was and he said he was in the bathroom.

When she didn’t find him, she kept on searching, until she found her son outside sitting on a chair, bleeding from his head.

The mother then called police to report the incident.

The jury has also heard testimony from the defendant’s neighbor and three police officers.

The trial of a 2015 murder will resume on Thursday.

The opening statements for the trial of Michael Molina began on Tuesday.

The defendant’s neighbor along with three Laredo Police officers took the stand.

Nothing was heard on Wednesday since the defense attorney had federal court.

Molina is on trial for the murder of Rodolfo Garza who he allegedly shot in the head on July 3rd,2015 in the 2400 block of Mallorca.
