LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - State lawmakers are getting ready for the start of the special legislative session that is set to start on Tuesday.
Last month, Governor Greg Abbott called legislators back to tackle several issues left pending from the regular session.
There are 20 issues the governor is putting before lawmakers during the special 30 day session.
Some of the big items include keeping the Texas Medical Board from shutting down, approving a thousand dollar teacher pay raise, providing school choice for special needs students and banning transgender friendly bathrooms in public schools.
The special session will last 30 days.
The governor could call for another special session is he chooses.
