Students participate in Martin Luther King Jr. Speech Competition

HOUSTON, Texas (KGNS) - Students in Houston got to share Dr. Martin Luther King’s passion and his dream, while also showing off their own public speaking skills.

A total of 12 elementary schools competed in the final round of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. oratory competition.

The students each had to write and present a short original speech on a subject related to Dr. King.

This year’s topic was “What is your dream for today’s world?”

The students were judged on delivery, stage presence and decorum, content interpretation and memorization, with the first place winner receiving $1,000.

The second place prize was $500 and the third was $300.
