SUGAR LAND, TEXAS (NBC) - Two of Texas' 33 Rio Olympians were honored Thursday evening in their home state.
The city of Sugar Land held a welcome home celebration for hometown heroes Simone Manuel and Steven Lopez.
Manuel won two gold medals and two silver.
She is also the first African-American woman to win an individual Olympic gold medal in a swimming event.
Manuel says she is humbled by all the support.
"This just really means a lot to me. It keeps me going and it just helps me swim the fastest I can and to perform to the best of my ability. Just the fact that people are telling me that I'm an inspiration to them is so humbling I can't even explain how I am feeling right now", said Manuel.
Lopez is a two-time gold medal winner in Taekwondo and competed in his fifth Olympics in Rio
He lost his 2016 Olympic bronze medal match in the men's 80 kilogram to a Tunisian competitor.
