LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - Administrators at both LISD and UISD held a press conference to discuss the details of the upcoming TELPAS Exam.
The TELPAS, which is the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System is the placing program exam taken by non-English speaking students when they begin elementary school.
The assessment is administered once a year to test the development of students English language skills.
Superintendent and directors of bilingual programs of both districts spoke about the importance of the test not only for the students but for administration to see if the program works.
Dr. Carmen Pompa of UISD says, “This is very important for us to be here and let our community know that TELPAS is a very important state assessment and servicing 16,000 students at United ISD really matters a lot to us.”
The latest changes made to the test involve the listening and speaking parts of the test which will now be taken online instead of the old paper exam.
