DALLAS, Texas (NBC) - The father of a three-year-old whose body was found near the suburban Dallas home has been indicted on a capital murder charges.
37-year-old Wesley Mathews and three-year-old Sherin Mathews
Officials say 37-year-old Wesley Mathews reported that his young daughter had gone missing after he punished her by having her stand by a tree outside the house at night.
During the investigation, Mathews’ story allegedly changed several times, including that she had died from choking on milk.
The three-year-old’s body was found two weeks later in a ditch near the family’s home.
The medical examiner ruled the girl’s death as a homicide.
On Friday a grand jury returned two indictments against Mathews.
One for the capital murder of a person under 10 and the other for abandoning a child and tampering with evidence.
