Thousands flee as California fires grow

(NBC) - Wildfires are continuing to spread across Southern California.

From Los Angeles through Ventura County, tens of thousands of people have been evacuated.

The flames stretch from the Skirball Fire near the Getty Center in Los Angeles through the Thomas Fire in Ventura County.

"Honestly, I have no words, I have no words. It's hard to see your home town like this .. just to be helpless," said resident Zach Munoz.

It's a feeling shared by more than 1,000 firefighters along the front lines, trying to fight the out of control fires from the ground and the air.

Those teams are losing ground as the fires are spreading across the strike zone, leaving neighborhoods in ruins and threatening dozens of communities.
