(NBC) - Emmy-award winning actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus has announced that she has breast cancer.

Dreyfus is famous for her roles in shows such as Seinfeld, New Adventures of Old Christine and Veep.

The 56-year-old received her diagnosis early this month, one day after she won her eighth Emmy award.

Dreyfus Tweeted, “One in eight women get breast cancer” and she is now the one.

She also said she has a supportive and caring group of family and friends.

The actress also pointed out that she has great health insurance but that not all women are as lucky, so she made a plea for universal health care.

Her latest Emmy was the sixth consecutive award for Louis-Dreyfus as lead actress in a comedy series.
