(NBC) - Verizon Wireless has responded to reports of a recent data breach.
A Verizon Wireless spokesperson says an employee of one of its vendors put information into a cloud storage area and incorrectly set the storage to allow external access.
The company says six million customers were affected, but that none of the information made it into the wrong hands.
The company says the only person who had access to the data was a researcher who brought the leak to its attention.
As a precaution after any sort of breach, consumers are encouraged to change their passwords and monitor their accounts for any suspicious activity.
