A Webb County law enforcement agency has taken a closer look into upgrading its protective gear.

Webb County Sheriff sergeant Robert Castillo knows that trouble can strike at any moment while working.

The sheriff's department is not looking to take any chances with the safety of their deputies so they are purchasing some new safety vests.

Two-hundred and thirty one bulletproof and knife vests are coming to the agency within then ext two months.

The vests will not only be used for the deputies out on the field but for the officers working in the jail as well.

Castillo says the department is staying up to date with current technology that is out in the market.

Before making the purchase, the department first presented the request to commissioners court.
