LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - With the November election drawing near, members of the county are setting out to educate the public about the proposal for the new county jail.

A press conference was held on Thursday at the Webb County Courthouse to give the public a chance to see the plans and design for what is being called the “Webb County Public Safety Headquarters”.

County Commissioner Jessie Gonzalez, who is also a reserve deputy with the Sheriff’s Office says he has seen firsthand why an upgrade is so important.

However, not everyone is in favor of the proposal.

Ultimately it will be up to Webb County residents to decide on the bond proposal.

Early voting starts on October 23rd and Election Day is on November 7th.
