This is the philosophy of one man celebrating his birthday, and doing it in a spin class he's teaching!
He's using the bike to inspire those of all ages to get active.
At age 70, John Francis is not letting anything slow him down. And the proof is the spin class he leads every Tuesday morning.
"Turning 70 is exciting. It's a real privilege to have made it to be 70 years old, and I'm still fit and active," John said.
John began his cycling journey at the age of 60.
"To celebrate my 60th, I went on a bike ride called the Cape Argus and it got me into cycling," John said.
Of course, he needed some initial motivation, and he found it in spinning instructor Alinda Perrine.
"I said, 'Get on the bike John, and we'll get started.' So John started about ten years ago riding a bicycle, and first in a cycle class, which transferred over to the road," Alinda said.
John is from South Africa, and at the age of 63, he traveled the United States on his bike.
"As you can tell, I'm not from the states, but that's the way to see the country. See the people, meet the people. See the country on two wheels is much better than in a car," John said.
John is an inspiration to many even at his new age of 70, helping people of all ages get up and get active.
"He doesn't stop just because of age, or even if he feels tired. John is really the type of person you want to be around, and he's so good for young people as well as for older people," Alinda said.
"You know, don't waste your life, and just get out there and keep moving. Find the beauty in everything, and the joy. Get great friends, and it makes life worthwhile and it will keep you young," John said.
