Students from both Salinas and Bonnie Garcia Elementary are in Washington, D.C. this week.

Fifteen fifth graders and their teachers had the opportunity to meet with Congressman Henry Cuellar and speak to him about important topics impacting our society.

Several of the kids interested in a career in politics also got to pick his brain about running for office.

Students also paid a special visit to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and visited several other monuments.

One of the organizers says the kids are very grateful to the sponsors who helped make the trip possible, as well as their parents.
