LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - According to the organization No Kid Hungry, about 13 million children live in households which cannot afford enough nutritious food on a regular basis - meaning they suffer from hunger at some point during the year.

Both school districts offer the Summer Feeding Program, which allows any child to receive free breakfast, lunch and snacks.

For years, a local program has made it their mission to make sure no child goes hungry in Laredo.

"A lot of families, it's hard for them to provide a meal. Now with the economic situation, it's a lot easier for us to do so through this federally funded program," says Roberto Cuellar, Jr., of the LISD Child Nutrition Program.

If you or someone you know may be interested in using the program, you can call 211 or text 'FoodTX,' to 877-877 for more information.
