LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - Laredo Community College's upcoming changes are moving full steam ahead as they await the governor's approval to expand their ability to offer more bachelor degrees.
The Texas House has approved LCC's bill to broaden their programs. Now the college is waiting on the confirmation of Governor Greg Abbott.
Laredo Community College trustee Cynthia Mares says the college is ready to embark on their new plans, and they hope this bill gets approved: "We are doing all of this with the ultimate goal of bringing more efficiency and better productivity in the operations of college, and so we have faith in the president that the decisions and recommendations he has made are going to exactly do that for this college."
Changes being made at the college caused several employees to lose their jobs. Several departments, including Student Services and the Health Service Department just to name a few, have been affected.
The college says these changes will save them a little over $1.5 million.
