LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - The City of Laredo is saying goodbye to another employee. This marks the second departure from a high ranking department head this week.
Parks and Leisure Department Director Osbaldo Guzman has turned in his letter of resignation and announced his retirement to Interim City Manager Horacio de Leon.
It was an unexpected move to some, but former parks and leisure director, Osbaldo Guzman says it was time to step down after 26 years of service.
The sudden move has some questioning the timeline, since one department head close to Guzman stepped down.
KGNS asked Horacio De Leon if this had anything to do with the retirement of Jesus Olivares but they said they were unable to comment.
KGNS also asked about another reason for Guzman’s departure, which is the possibility of his name being in the spotlight at a recent City Council meeting.
The city has appointed assistant director JJ Gomez to take over any parks and leisure operations until the city finds an interim director.
When De Leon was asked about why Guzman was leaving, all he had to say was it was so Guzman could spend time with his family.
