LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - One of the best performances from last weekend with our final Academy Fever player of the week goes to a Mustang.
For the second time this year we got to Nixon High School.
We honor the Mustangs Eric Oliva after he helped Nixon shutout their rivals in the Laredo Superbowl while at the same time clinching the schools first playoff appearance in eight years.
Oliva recorded 16 total tackles, four of them for a loss as Nixon won 23 to nothing.
The junior linebacker credits his teammates for making him look so good while his coach is thankful to have a player of Oliva's caliber on his team.
"It was just a defensive performance, it wasn't just me, the defensive, the lineman did a really good job. They did everything we asked them to do. I was just there to make sure to not miss a tackle", said Oliva.
Congratulations to Oliva and the all 11 players that we were able to honor this season with our player of the week award, it was not an easy choice any of the weeks and there were many more that could have won.
