LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - The Obamacare enrollment deadline is today, and many citizens of Laredo still have to enroll.
The Gateway Clinic is packed with people who waited until the last day to register. Because of the high volume in the website, the website is currently down.
The fines for not having health insurance might not seem like a lot this year, but they'll be going up. For those who do not have any type of insurance, the fine will be one-percent of your yearly income. So you if you make $60,000, your fine would be $600. The minimum penalty is $95 per adult, and $47.50 per child.
The next open enrollment period for the marketplace, or Obamacare, insurance will not be until October.
"If you don't apply by today, the Marketplace insurance closes today, March 31st. It will reopen on October 15th through December 7th."
The penalties will be going up every year for those that do not enroll. Next year, the penalty will be two-percent of your income. In 2016, it will jump 2.5-percent.
