(NBC) - A controversial chemical is almost out of all Subway breads.

The chemical, a bleaching agent and dough conditioner, will be completely phased out of Subway breads by next week, according to a company executive.

The additive is approved by the FDA, and other companies use it in breads.

But Subway came under fire after a food blogger petitioned for its removal, noting the chemical is also used to make yoga mats.

The executive says Subway had already started removing the ingredient when the petition became news.
