(NBC) - Facebook is a great way to keep in touch with friends near and far, but a new study finds too much of the social media site could have negative effects on young women.
Data from over 800 female college students reveals those who spent large amounts of time on Facebook had more negative feelings about their appearance and compared their bodies to friends'.
Researchers say this effect was most common in women wanting to lose weight.
And while time spent on Facebook had no direct relation to eating disorders, it did affect body image, which can develop into an unhealthy relationship with food.
