Laredo teen to compete on national stage

LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - In an unprecedented academic achievement for the alumnus of Harmony Science Academy, 14-year-old Laredoan Louie Ramos will be competing for the title of Champion at the National History Bee in Atlanta, GA on June 7, 2014.

The civic-minded, long time Boy Scout has attended Harmony Science Academy for six years and has excelled academically throughout his time at the institution.

He qualified for the National History Bee after having competed in the Austin Regional History Bee on February 19.

The National History Bee is an individual academic competition for elementary and middle school students that tests the knowledge of a wide range of historical topics. The first phase of the National History Bee competition is the Online Regional Qualifying Exam (ORQE) that was administered in January.

The highest test scorers in each of the 37 regions across the U.S. attend and compete at the regional finals that are organized and staffed by the National History Bee.

Louie and the other qualifiers will compete at the National History Bee which will be held June 7th in Atlanta, Ga.

History and Social Studies are Louie’s favorite subjects; he is a well rounded student who has maintained a 4.0 GPA while also participating in his school’s basketball team, MathCounts Team and being Assistant Senior Patrol leader in his Boy Scout Troop. Louie is the son of Juan Francisco and Susana Ramos.
