It's the start of "National Library Week," and librarians from all over town are being recognized.

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Both of the Laredo school districts are celebrating the joy of reading.

It's the start of "National Library Week," and librarians from all over town are being recognized.

"It's very important to recognize our librarians and their efforts, and their hard work, and dedication to the profession," said Director of Library and Media Services Mely Pais. "Without them, they're the ones that instill the love of reading in our students, and as we all know, literacy is very important to succeed in life."

The librarians and their staff are not only recognized for their hard work, but the "Librarian of the Year" honor was also presented. They are also recognizing the elementary, middle, and high schools for having the most books circulated from the beginning of the school year.

"I would like to thank all my librarians and their staff for everything that they do, and that they have a wonderful National Library Week," said Pais.

Both of the Laredo school districts will have many more events to come throughout the week.
