Laredo, Texas -- Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas® announced today that it has named Kathrin Brewer as the new President and Chief Executive Officer.

Brewer brings an excellent track record of success in the public, private and non-profit sectors. An acknowledged leader of innovation in programming and development, she most recently served as the superintendent and CEO of KIPP Austin Public Schools, culminating a decade of public school service, including several years as the executive director of Austin Partners in Education (APIE).

At APIE, Brewer recruited UT coach Mack Brown to spearhead the revolutionary Classroom Coaching program, a new frontier in volunteer support of student learning.

“We are very excited to have Kathrin join us,” said Board Chair Duane Miller. “Kathrin brings extraordinary leadership skills in developing organizations and building community support. We look forward to leveraging her depth of experience to lead our highly talented and professional staff as we move to the next level in service to our kids.”

A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley in chemical engineering, Brewer arrived in Austin in 1984 to join the growing technology sector, where she has built and led exceptional teams to pioneer award-winning initiatives in technology and community development. She lives in Austin with her husband and daughter and has served on numerous philanthropic and private boards.
