LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) -- It has been some time that we have been hearing Governor Rick Perry will deploy National Guard troops to the South Texas border, and now were hearing the first wave of troops has arrived.
Perry has voiced the need for extra security against smugglers and cartels in light of the immigrant surge that Border Patrol is dealing with.
KGNS has received confirmation that troops are right now in the Rio Grande Valley.
Fifty guardsmen have arrived there to man observation posts, about 1,000 were expected to be deployed..
The question is: Are there troops now guarding our Laredo border?
KGNS reached out to a spokesperson for the National Guard in Austin. They tells us that at the moment, they are not releasing where the troops have been deployed on the border due to security reasons.
