LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A local organization is hoping to get the word out and create awareness on the dangers of drinking alcohol.

April 10th is National Alcohol Screening Test Day.

SCAN holds free screenings for people who believe to be suffering from alcohol or substance abuse. The organization hopes to create awareness to those who are not yet legal to drink.

"We try to create awareness to the students on the dangers of alcohol use because there's a lot of students that are underage," said SCAN Program Director Veronica Jimenez. "They are not 21 yet and they are already consuming alcohol, binge drinking, having parties, things like that."

The screenings are free and open to the public, or to anyone who makes an appointment.

For more information on how you can get a screening, you can call their office at 956-724-3177.
