LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - A University of Houston professor says, "You can take the girl out of Laredo, but you can't take the Laredo out of the girl."

Sandra Guerra Thompson is an expert in the field of Criminal Admissability of Expert Testimony.

The Gateway Rotary Club invited her back to her hometown to share her story in front of club members, local attorneys and the Laredo Bar Association, at a joint meeting.

"One of the exciting things for me is to have so many of my former students here, as well as members of the Bar Association, and I know then as students," said Thompson. "So it's really exciting to see them develop in their career and now become leaders in the community."

Thompson spoke on the topic of expert witnesses, as well as how many people from the community she's met inside the law center.

"We've been blessed at the University of Houston to have a lot of Laredoans come through our doors, and that's a great thing for the city," said Thompson. "And so many of them came back."

Thompson went on to share what things to do in the legal system to make the community a better place.

She has been working at the University of Houston for 24 years.
