Zapata Sheriff candidate files petition for recount

ZAPATA, TEXAS (KGNS) - Elections may be over in Zapata, but not for one candidate who is looking for a recount in the race for Sheriff.

The race for Zapata County Sheriff was a close call during Super Tuesday's voting numbers, with only 13 votes separating the candidates.

Alonso M. Lopez, who was running to be reelected as sheriff, took the win with 50 percent, and his opponent Sigifredo Gonzalez received 49 percent.

Gonzalez posted on his Facebook page he has filed a petition for a recount of the votes.

There is no word yet when the recount will take place.
