GM names safety chief

General Motors names new Vice President of Global Vehicle Safety to oversee recalls and other safety issues.

GM veteran Jeff Boyer is appointed to the newly created position of Vice President of Global Vehicle Safety.

(NBC News) - Hammered by recalls, General Motors CEO Mary Barra admits terrible things have happened and is promising some quick solutions.

She started making good on that promise Tuesday by creating a new product safety position within the automotive giant.

GM's announcement Monday of a recall affecting more than a million and a half vehicles came on top of a recall last month affecting another a million and a half cars.

Barra promoted 40 year GM veteran Jeff Boyer to the newly created position of Vice President of Global Vehicle Safety.
