ROCKLAND, NY (NBC) - Summer camp can offer fun opportunities for kids when they're out of school, but it can cost a pretty penny.

Camp is an even more popular pursuit these days, but if you don't plan ahead it can be a strain on your budget. An overnight camp can cost upwards of $2,000 a week, and the average price, about $700, has been climbing.

The good news is there's camp for pretty much every budget. Jill Tipograph is the founder of Everything Summer, and she says you've got to be flexible.

And remember to talk to your child about the kinds of activities and camp experiences he wants that way you wont get any calls or letters home like in those old camp songs.
