Bill Cosby to be honored at the ACA's.

(NBC) -- Some of the movies, TV shows and viral videos that made us laugh the most.

Over the past year will be honored Thursday night on NBC's Broadcast of the "American Comedy Awards".

In addition, a man who's been making us laugh for decades will also be honored, Bill Cosby.

In the world of stand-up comedy, almost everyone who followed Bill Cosby owes a debt to him.

"We all copy him in some form or fashion," says Aisha Tyler.

"He's at the top of the pantheon, I don't think there's a comedian alive who hasn't been influenced by his work," say comedians Keegan Micheal-Key and Jordan Peele.

One of the comics Cosby inspired helped honor him at the American Comedy Awards.

Chris Rock presented Cosby with the Johnny Carson Award for Comedic Excellence.

"What I love about what I do is that it does show up, the response from the audience to me," said Cosby.

It's a response earned through Cosby's iconic TV series, numerous hit movies, and a legendary stand up career, ignited when he first appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in the Sixties.

"I said, I want to talk to you about karate! And they laughed! And i was home free after that!!," said Cosby.

And he's not slowing down.

Now 76 years old, Cosby's got nearly 3 dozen concerts in the months ahead.

"With a beard and gray and balding, I can play my brother Russell at age five, and people love it," says Cosby.

On a night when the year's best laughs are being honored, decades of Cosby comedy are still being savored.

The American Comedy Awards air Thursday at 9:00 p.m. Eastern on NBC.
