HOUSTON, TX (KPRC) - Ronald McDonald is updating himself with a new look and a new presence on social media.

McDonald's longtime mascot famous for his bright red hair, yellow overalls and clown shoes, has gotten a style makeover. He now sports a red blazer, a red bow tie and a red-and-white striped rugby shirt. Another outfit includes a yellow vest and yellow cargo pants. His iconic big red shoes will remain the same.

Ronald McDonald will also start to take an active role on McDonald's social media channels, including Twitter, where he will use the hashtag #RonaldMcDonald.

"Customers today want to engage with brands in different ways and Ronald will continue to evolve to be modern and relevant," said Dean Barrett, the Senior Vice President and Global Relationship Officer for McDonald's in a statement.

Ronald McDonald made his first national TV appearance in a commercial during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1965. He was named national spokesman for McDonald’s in 1966.
