The site for the new wind mill facility in Bruni has been selected and will be behind Bruni Middle School.
LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - The windmill farms in the quad city area are what make those small towns stand out. Webb County hopes to give these people more opportunities at jobs in their hometown by building a new training facility. The majority of the workers on the windmill farms are from out of town. The county hopes this training facility will give quad city residents a reason to stay.
The new facility will be by Bruni Middle School. High school students will be able to take classes to get their certification to work on a windmill farm. The county is now looking for a contractor to build the new training facility. But the basic classes could start as early as July.
"Jobs are limited. Lately, we have been losing community members to go forward and they are going north. Other than oil and gas, we needed to have something else."
"I think it will offer a lot of opportunities for our students graduating to work here and stay close to home. It might also bring people to the quad city area, which I think is a good thing."
Bruni goes to school year-round. So introductory classes could start as early as July. Once the facility is up and running, they will also offer certification classes to community members in the quad city area.
