LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A few elementary students got a head start on tomorrow's Earth Day by celebrating with fun activities at their school.
Billie Bote, along with the staff from the Laredo Recycling Program, stopped by and visited with students at Centeno Elementary.
The school hosted Earth Day activities that focus on creating environmental awareness and the issues littering can cause in our community.
"We also teach them not to litter," said Sylvia Garza, of Laredo Solid Waste Services. "That brings consequences in our community, and it obviously doesn't look pretty and brings problems. We also teach them not to litter, recycle, and to protect our green space."
Garza says it's important for these events to happen at elementary schools to teach students of the consequences of littering, as well as create awareness at an early age and to teach them how to preserve Earth's natural resources.
