LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - You're likely to see higher speeds along a major road that bypasses South Laredo.
Along Cuatro Vientos Boulevard, drivers will soon be able to drive 65 miles per hour in some zones where the speed limit is now set at 60.
The changes are coming after traffic monitoring done by TxDOT.
Council Member Mike Garza represents district 1, where the highway passes. He said traffic has been lighter-than-expected, which has led to the increase.
Garza said the speed will still be slower on the northern end of Loop 20.
"As you get closer into town, like closer to the overpass, that'll be the constant 60 miles per hour. And then of course you get to 55 and then 45, so there'll be a gradual reduction in that speed," said Garza.
The city council is expected to accept the mandate asked by TxDOT at Tuesday's meeting. The change will then happen within 30 days.
