LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) -- A final reading tonight at city council will change the way Laredoans will shop in the coming year.
City leaders were expected to amend the plastic bag ordinance by changing the name to "checkout bag reduction" adding single use paper bag to its definition.
Council unanimously decided to return to the original plastic bag ban ordinance last month.
We spoke with council member Mike Garza about the adjustment people will have to make in their habits.
They had recently considered giving shoppers the option to pay a dollar fee for every transaction if they used plastic bags.
Now, the option of paying that fee and using plastic bags is completely off the table.
The change takes effect on April 30th of next year.
