LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - When you drive down Loop 20 by TAMIU, you'll notice a lot of bikers in the early morning hours and at night. Councilman Mike Garza would like to add a similar bike lane on Cuantro Vientos road in south Laredo.
Ideally it would be modeled after the bike lane by on the loop. It's just an idea for now, so the cost has not yet been discussed. Councilman Garza said he wants to make south Laredo a little more exercise friendly, and this bike lane would help.
“I think it provides another opportunity for something for folks to do for people in that part of town. It's raw land, so it's a perfect time to do something like this. I don't know what the expense is, that’s why we are discussing it tomorrow to see if the city can pitch in or some type of situation.”
If the city decides they want to pursue the bike lane on Cuantro Vientos Road, they will have to go through the Texas Department of Transportation since TxDOT owns the road. If approved, the bike lane would extend all the way to Mangana Hein. It would end up being 14 miles round trip.
The city currently has a bike lane on the loop as well as Clark Boulevard.
