LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - Right now it's sits empty and useless, but an effort is underway to repair the Bruni Plaza fountain. One thing they do want to be sure of is that it's restored exactly as it once was.

Monday night, the Laredo city council will accept a $50,000 grant from the Lamar Bruni Vergara trust. This money will be used to repair the pump, to get the water flowing again. Lighting will also be added.

"We do always want to encourage people to come and enjoy their downtown. It's historic, it's very beautiful, it's a beautiful plaza. And one a day like today come and sit and enjoy the atmosphere, the environment and of course one day we can get that fountain going and they can enjoy that fountain as well."

The city doesn't plan to touch the tile, because of its rich history; they only want to replace the mechanics, to get the fountain working again. The city does not have a time frame for completing the restoration project.
