LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) -- Another citizen is voicing his concern over District VII's Councilman Jorge Vera who, for the second time since his arrest, did not show up to a council meeting.
Remy Salinas, a citizen of Laredo, is not a resident of District VII. However, he says he is concerned over the lack of representation for that district. Today the council met to discuss the city budget, but Councilman Vera and Rangel were both out. It's the second time for Councilman Vera who did not show up to the last city council meeting. Remy Salinas says a recall election could soon be possible. "We've already started getting signatures. It's obvious we're going to get enough signatures to get a recall election in November. But, if the councilman would do the honorable thing, and right thing and resign, then in November we could all have a special election and get a new councilman seated so we don't have that seat vacant while we're waiting for another special election."
Mr. Salinas says they have about 120 signatures. Organizers will need to get signatures from ten percent of the number of people who voted in the last District VII election. Those signatures will need to come from registered voters.
